Swimming and sunbathing – a popular summer in the city
On hot days, the most popular places for young people and families with young children are swimming pool complexes, and the biggest of these are Moczydło Water Park and the Inflancka Centre. In addition to recreational pools they offer slides, aquatic playgrounds, artificial rivers and water curtains. There are also various other smaller swimming centres available in Warsaw during the summer season including at Szcześliwice and on Wał Miedzeszyński. As well as summer pools, they offer massage equipment, flumes and paddling pools for toddlers. You can rent sunbeds or stretch out on your own mat on the grass or on the sandy beach.
For lovers of relaxing in nature, the beaches on the right bank of the Vistula are a better choice—not only are they natural but they’re recognised as some of the world’s most beautiful urban beaches! Among the most popular are: Poniatówka beach, Rusałka beach and Żoliborz beach. In the summer there are rental facilities there for sunbeds and recreational equipment. Decide for yourself which to choose to soak up the sun, play badminton or boules, read, enjoy the entertainment, or simply spend a pleasant time with friends.
Warsaw’s Vistula Boulevards are a popular attraction both for Varsovians and tourists, offering a picturesque location along the River Vistula, enticing you to leisurely strolls, bicycle rides and outdoor activities. The boulevards stretch between Warsaw bridges, providing a variety of attractions such as cafés, bars, viewing points, and shady pergolas. In recent years the boulevards have been extended and refurbished, which has drawn in even more tourists to enjoy the picturesque promenade by the river.
The two banks of the river are connected by a free ferry crossing, which is an interesting attraction in itself, as well as by a pedestrian and cycle bridge that’s worth a longer visit. The new structure stretches for a length of 452 metres (almost 1,500 feet), thanks to which it has become one of the longest crossings of its type in the world. In addition to its communication function, the bridge also has recreational value. The absence of motor traffic and the beautiful cityscape offer walkers and cyclists a moment’s relaxation.
Almost a quarter of Warsaw’s area is made up of green space. Here you will find not only freely-available historic gardens but also tranquil parks, squares, nature reserves, and botanical gardens. Warsaw is one of the world’s few capitals that can also boast a woods growing within the city itself. Regardless of whether you like walking, running and cycling, or prefer lazy picnics or sunbathing, you are sure to love our city.
