Museum of Sport and Tourism
The museum is one of the oldest museums of this type in Europe and it has been operating since 1952. You will see a permanent exhibition showing the history of sport from ancient Greece to the present day. Among the several thousand exhibits you can see original Olympic medals, cups, sports and tourist badges, clothing and sports equipment and a real treat: the canoe that Karol Wojtyła sailed in on the Masurian lakes before he became the Pope.
The museum is located in the modern Olympic Center building. The building itself is steeped in the symbolism of the Olympic idea – the elevator shaft resembles a torch, and the roof is akin to stadium architecture. In front of the building is the sculpture Ikaro Alato by Igor Mitoraj.
